As most would know that have read many of my articles, I am not a Republican or a Democrat. My religious beliefs are that I applaud anyone who has a personal belief system although I feel organized religion can be dangerous and has been responsible for more death and destruction to societies throughout mankind's history than just about anything else. I believe in liberal causes and I believe that being conservative in some areas is prudent although being reactionary is cowardly. I believe that the current Republican Party is more dangerous than any party in the history of our country because it has been usurped through blackmail tactics by the Religious Right and the Tea Party to the point that the Republican Party that most of us have known no longer exists and the goals of the Religious Right and Tea Party are destructive for the nation.
With that out of the way, I want to know from both sides who decided that President Barak Obama was black. Without going to deep into lineage the president had a black father and white mother. Based on that the President is 50% white and 50% black. I could care less if he is black or if he is white however I find it appalling that either side would either look upon him favorably or unfavorably for being one or the other. If the President appeared as the image we have included in this article would we call him black or would we call him white? Would both sides claim him or would both sides reject him? Personally as with the we appears now or if appeared as in this photo I would just call him a man.
The President is just that, a man. A man who has shown nothing but sympathy for the aspirations of our nation, the morals that we strive for, and the honor that we strive for. This does not mean the President has lived up to your expectations or mine. Who could? He came to office with the Black Community and other minority groups with their aspirations for him as the first Black President, the Progressives also had their aspirations for a new frontier because of our Presidents race and hoping for a new era in America where the nation could put more of it's past behind it. The Republican Party feared the first black President so much that they declared on day one of his Presidency that their number one goal was to defeat him. I am here to tell everyone, the President is only Black or White if we decide to look at it that way. It is our own prejudice no matter our race that claim him to be one or the other.
For one, I do not believe he is black or white. I believe he is man that could never live up to what any group would want him to live up to, or fulfill the fears that any group believes he can, as he is only trying to be the President of our nation which requires that no one group will ever get all of their expectations. He can and has however tried to live up to being a man that is doing his best for our nation. In many ways I think he has succeeded and many ways I think he could have done better. With that said, that is an easy call on my part because I am not the one that must fight to live up to those expectations from so many and try to prove the expectations of the other side false. I do not have to wake up each morning wondering how those that identify with me feel about how I am doing and I do not have to wake up each morning knowing that another half of my nation take a bigoted look at me and have to try to persuade them they are wrong. Would it not be nice for him if he could just wake up trying to fulfill the aspirations of our nation instead?
I ask all once more to look at the picture provided and decide if you have to declare that person as either black or white or could you get past your own prejudice and look at him as just a man who could do the best job that he could as long as we would let him. For that reason I must say that I am tired of those on both sides that decide to either take pride or to look with prejudice upon him and make this a focal point of his Presidency. Some will say that he has declared himself black as with Travon Martin and I will say you are wrong. All he said is that if he had a son he may very well look like Travon Martin. What most people miss is that this was not a statement of race it was a statement of how ignorant we are. The President was only making a direct observation of physical characteristics and how they play into our thought process. This did not declare anything about which race he presumed to be it merely was a fact of how little control anyone of any race has about how they are percieved because of physical appearance and our long history of prejudice.
I for one am proud to call him my President and am willing to put everything else aside to help him succeed. In the end I have wished all of our Presidents in my life time success no matter if I agreed with them or not because I wanted my nation to succeed. To do less is treasonous in my book. Our nation will never acheive it's potential until we elect a black woman for President and not one word was written or said about the candidate being either.
So here is to the success of our President, he is of my heritage, American. For anyone that sees him as anything other than that I feel sorry for you and believe that you by doing so have helped to assure he could not do the job we elected him for in some ways. How much more could the President have a achieved if we the people of his nation were not so petty as to make his job so much more difficult. When you blame this President for not fulfillling his responsibilities, when you blame him for devisiveness, when you blame him for the things that Bush left behind, when you blame him for so much, I would say that many who do so are cowards for not taking the ownership for how difficult we have made his job over any President that has preceeded him and for putting these additional burdens upon the man.
How much of what you believe are his failures really ours from assuring that he has not had the support necessary to succeed?
